Ancient Teachings and Practices for Healing the Body, Mind, and Heart.

Yoga books and classes often give the impression that yoga is primarily a physical practice: that it is all about arranging your body in particular positions. Kraftsow considers the Vedic view of the human system as having five aspects: the physical body, vital body, intellectual mind, personality and the heart. He proceeds to show how we can develop practices to nourish each of these parts using practices that include yoga postures and breathing, chanting, meditation, ritual and mantra.
While the sections on posture and breathing are very clear and offer and excellent presentation of a good selection of basic techniques, they are kept in context as part of yoga not its entirity. This is a practical book that can be used to develop or refine your own practice to encompass more than the physical dimension.
